DIY vs b.u.y.

recently, i tried my hand a little homemade finger paint experiment. i'm not toooo crafty, so this was slightly out of character for me, but it was probably snowing + i didn't want to get out with the littles, or maybe i had seen too many episodes of bubble guppies that day, who knows! point being, i pinterested homemade paints + came across a recipe that was completely safe/edible, washes out easily + only a few ingredients to make. (hand raising emoji here) i'm in. welllll i'm not gonna count this necessarily as a fail, because my boy had some fun for sure + i consider that winning... BUT i will say some things are just worth buying vs. doing it yourself. too much or too little of whatever ingredient, my finger paints came out more like finger paint gel + his artwork dried crunchy, womp womp. we got the real deal + since made valentines, had all sorts of fun, + our fridge is covered in precious paintings from our guy, sweet arrow + even little lucy. maybe next time i'm feeling super adventurous i'll give homemade another shot, but for now crayola is rocking it + i'm all right with that.

DIY baby shower invites!

IMG_6819
do it yourself & so stinkin' cute.
my sister & i are throwing our littlest sister, ashton's, baby shower! we couldn't be more excited for her & wanted to give her the royal treatment she deserves! we made these invites from top to bottom.

supplies used & all from hobby lobby... because it's the best ever:
blank notecards with envelopes
single scrapbooking sheets - three different designs
polka dot scrapbook paper for the insides
polka dot stamp & pink ink pad
yellow paper cut into a few (million) mini triangles - for the banners
bakers twine (man, that stuff is so cute i could wrap myself up in it)
glue stick
hot glue gun

man these were fun! getting crafty is always more fun for me when i'm doing it for someone special! we glued everything together using a glue stick except for the mini banners... taylor glued them one by one with the hot glue gun... that. is. love.
we loved how they turned out & ashton did too! they'd also be super cute as blank notecards!
happy friday!

a home tour: before & after

a HUGE thanks to the best mom ever who took time out of her insanely hectic & busy schedule (you know, the one that keeps 5 kids & a husband's world turning, runs two successful businesses, is constantly creating gorgeous works of art to sell in her own shop... in her shops, all at the same time maintaining sanity & wonderful life full of the good stuff.) that one. thanks to her making time to spend with me re-finishing my furniture so that our home decor feels complete! i am so so happy about this! look at what we did!
project one:
$7 home depot crates + $8 minwax: dark walnut stain from home depot
... diy entertainment shelves
i absolutely LOVE how they turned out! you can polycrylic these if you like a more finished look, but i liked them looking more natural in our house!

this is an OUTSIDE project. seriously. you will fry your brain if you try using the stain indoors.
IMG_7205project two:
our coffee table + the same $8 minwax: dark walnut stain from home depot
...new love for our coffee table!
i appreciate natural wood as much as the next person, but for my personal style in our home, the walnut stain is more up my alley. it's beautiful & really warms up the room!

lastly, just some finishing touches! remember this project…? woo-hoo! it now finally has the wash over it! thanks mom!

& this one…? our wall of insta is complete! a square seemed fitting!
you all have a great weekend! happy friday!

a little before & a little after.

so this project is one i’ve been working on since i was still about to pop pregnant. i started it on a random day, at a random time, with every intention of finishing it that day, but you know.
it sat half painted for about a week & then abel joined us on the outside of my belly, so it stayed half painted for a couple more weeks. & then i finished painting it & it sat without knobs for a couple MORE weeks. but you guys. three months later, & it is now one color & officially has mismatch knobs just the way i imagined. it still needs the dark “wash” i planned on doing to it, but i’ve been sitting on this post & this project for far too long, so i’m counting it as good as done & sharing! maybe i’ll get to that in a couple more weeks… ;)
enjoy!

we’ve been busy little bees over here while we wait for our little man to join us. moving, decorating painting… you name it! we even hosted taco tuesday this week at our house for my family :)
&& yesterday folks… wait for it… we got our internet set up! woop woop! soooo, since i finally had access to all of my pictures, i wanted to show you guys two of our before & after projects we’ve been working on.
first up… baby bassinet.
we found this little gem at a thrift store here in town for $30! it matched the style of the crib we had picked out perfectly and was a must have. baby boy’s nursery is in warmer/bolder colors, so we wanted to do something totally different for the bassinet since it will spend most of it’s time in our room or the living room. we love it.
