10 stinkin' years...

i spared you from any pictures from 2003 or 2004, because i liked this square layout the best & it only fit 9, most of those photos are all in print & not in cyber world (man i miss those days) and well... you know, who really wants to see us 10 years ago riiight? if you were there... you remember. lots of fake tanner & not husbands best hair years. anyway though, here are some shots of us starting in 2005 through 2013... i'm hoping to take a million tonight on our date & that will be our first "only the two of us" picture in 2014, hooray!

okay so... ten years. i'm not even sure where to begin. firstly, i feel so thankful that i have been with the love of my life for TEN YEARS already, what an honor to be able to say that at my age, or any age for that matter. high school, college, 4 years of marriage, 5 cities, 3 pets, and a baby later... i'm happy to be the mrs. to his mr. & i'm so very proud of us. i know that ten years is not twenty years or fifty & i'm certainly not so naive to think that there won't be challenges that we face down the road that may weaken what we have going on right now, but i'm still so proud of us to be standing here beside each other today after our  T E N . unfortunately, i feel like we live in a world where marriage & relationships aren't valued the way they once were or could be. marriage is a contract you can get in or out of depending on how you are "feeling" in that season & the significance, the sacredness, the commitment & all of the hard work are looked over in today's society. i'm also not so naive to think that there aren't circumstances where marriages shouldn't go on. i just think it's so sad & unfortunate. especially after seeing my mom fight so hard to keep my dad around & to lose him, without a choice. it's heartbreaking.
i love being married. it is absolutely work. every single day it's a choice & there are definitely days where we mess up & have to apologize & choose to try harder & do better tomorrow. i am thankful for a husband who values me and our marriage & makes our family his first priority no matter what.
i am beyond blessed by chris. i love the way that he looks at me from across the messy, toy covered room with so much love in his heart, & like we're the luckiest people in the world. i believe that we are. i love the smile lines around his eyes & the way he hugs me. i love that we still do so many of the silly things we did when we first started dating, like three squeezes means 'i love you' and if we are walking & are split by something we click our forearms together to cancel out the split. he knows when i just need a hug & for him to let me cry. i love to my core that he really knew my dad & i fell in love with him a million times over when he spoke at his memorial. i love that together we made abel. he's by far the best thing we have ever done together & i'm still blown away that we couldn't have made him with any other person in the world. he's the greatest dad & when i see him in action, i can't even deal... i just want to go make more babies with him right then and there ;)
he's my best friend in the world & there will never be enough words to describe our love...
so happy 10 years to us!
we are celebrating tonight at the melting pot (neither of us have ever been)! he made me the most adorable, personalized invitation, in addition to the most beautifully written card that made me ugly cry like never before on Christmas morning. i am so excited! maybe i'll actually post about it... since you know, i've been so great at that lately ;) here's hoping!
chris, happy ten years. i can't wait to see what the next year & the next ten & twenty after that bring. i love dating + being married to you.

christmas in no particular order...

i hope you had a wonderful christmas, abel certainly did. he scarfed up on just about every toy that has ever been made for his age & i think i've pushed him around every house within the family on his riding toy only a million kabillion times. i'm so thankful for that little boy, he's the best thing that chris + i have done, EVER + he made christmas a good one for everyone this year. we enjoyed spending time together as a family, playing games + again, eating... WAY too much... but what's new? below are some snippets from the days leading up to christmas + the wonderful day itself... in no particular order because my computer was being slow & arranging them chronologically just wasn't in the cards this time around... enjoy + have a happy new year! xoxo

its 2am as i write this. i sit in my dark bedroom, lights from the tree fill our hallway, abel cuddled next to me + a sweet husband sleeping an arms length away. i skipped two days of crying this week... abel got a stomach bug for the first time ever + it was horrible for my mama heart, also very distracting for my broken daughter one. hotel cafe : winter songs plays softly in the background of my scene + lyrics from a song i've heard a million times over hit me differently than ever before...
"this is my winter song, december never felt so wrong"
just a simple phrase that stung so differently tonight + filled me with so much emotion that the tears fell like it happened yesterday...
this is the first december in my 25 years of living that i don't have my daddy. no search for the perfect sweatshirt or gadget for the kitchen because it's the only thing he ever asked for, no hug on christmas morning or "breakfast is swerved" when the cinnamon rolls are ready... just memories. it's all we have this december. my heart is heavy like i've never known + i'm still baffled. still asking why? in my anger.   not that i would ever in a million years wish it on anyone else's dad ever, but why mine? my sweet + loving father who loved his family well. why at all? can't we all just live to be 90 + go peacefully in our sleep notebook style, lying next to our soul mate? i mean that's how you picture it to be right? when will i feel happy looking at pictures of him + not burst into tears because i miss him? when will i find comfort in the things he loved or the places we went together instead of sorrow? will i ever? so many questions, emotions + thoughts run through my mind... i guess this is grief.
we're not supposed to ask why. we're supposed to trust God. + i do... but i'd be lying if i didn't tell you that it's been put to the test more than ever in this chapter of my life. i read a quote yesterday from a book given to me by a most special friend that helped me begin to accept what is, it said this...
"maybe, just maybe you don't want to change the story, because you don't know what a different ending holds."
there's a reason i'm not writing the story + God is. He knows what it all means, where it leads... i don't. There are simply things we don't understand + He does.
i miss my dad. i will never stop missing my dad or wishing he was here, but even in that i remember my favorite verse + am still full of thanksgiving.
"rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
i am thankful for so much + not in this order. i'm thankful for the family i have, even one less member. i am thankful for the time we had with my dad + the memories we have to hold onto. i am thankful for christmas + joy + snow + twinkling lights. i am thankful for our tiny house + all of it's quirks. i am thankful for salvation. i am thankful for harlow's christmas sweater because it makes her 10% less annoying just by putting it on + it reminds me that i do in fact love her even with all of her bad manners. i'm thankful that today marks exactly one year since my 7 month pregnant surgery stint + all of this happened. i am so thankful for this blog + for all of you who read it daily + stand with me on this journey through life. i am thankful for heaven. i am thankful for chris + how he loves me. i am thankful for abel. abel makes all things better. there is proof that God is good for anyone who needed it in his smile + his sweet hugs. he is the sweetest distraction.
i am thankful.
+ below... what this post was originally set out to be, christmas sprinkled in our home. xoxo

the weekend already?!

happy short week to us! (thanks Labor Day!)
so i've been busy NOT blogging this week, but instead, giving Sugar Hill a much needed facelift! i love it & am super proud that i figured out how to do it all by myself. (insert pat on the back here)
anyhow, i'm working on some posts for the upcoming week & will be back in full swing come monday! for now, here's a happy little picture of my favorite bunch... my family.

have a great weekend!
xoxo

our fourth of july!

IMG_8030
i hope you all had a wonderful fourth of july weekend! we most definitely did! 4 days off of work for husband, time at grammy & papaw's house, homemade ice cream, fireworks, & a few (a lot) of photos of our time together makes for a very happy day around here!
we started the day with some french toast, and some hair curling. yep, you heard right. i actually used nap time to curl my hair instead of whatever else it is i usually do. a few messy pony tails & a hat later, we're lookin' at loose waves by the time barbecuing rolled around, but i'll take it. we spent time on the patio & ate hamburgers & hotdogs, then headed to city park with our homemade ice cream for the fireworks! i'll say it again... abel is THE best baby in baby history. he played & was all smiles, per usual. we brought headphones in case the fireworks scared him... they didn't. he watched for about ten minutes before passing out. adorable. i love that little nugget. he makes my heart go pitter-patter.
here are some photos from our day!

i love these sisters of mine. abel sure does too! auntie tay is his second favorite nap spot, and he & ashi get down on the drums... he especially loves the symbol crash at the end. i am so thankful to have sisters. & i am so thankful to have a huge family on both sides. there is never a lack of love around here. i can't wait until baby girl schmeeckle arrives & just adds to it, for now i love that little bump^^^
