perfection, on burning the candles...

a while ago, i read this wonderful post HERE by one of my very favorite authors + loved it so much that i immediately began applying it, and quickly needed more candles :) it's such good advice, and easy to apply to lots of things in life... some other things not. i am such a perfectionist, and never like to share things or big news until it's JUST right... well here's the thing about house buying + building... there is always something you could find to change or work on + the creative process just continues to grow as you live there. i posted a year ago some before photos HERE of our little house on the corner, and promised updates + photos along the way, and in the meantime the whole process got drawn out + muddied because of a terrible contractor situation. 4 months turned into a year + we ended up finishing our home on our own (with help from family + friends)! chris learned lots of new skills that i was thoroughly impressed by + it has been a journey to say the least. so here we are a year later... we still don't have painted doors + baseboards, or a knob on our bedroom or bathroom door, and lots of little things like that, that have kept me from sharing what has been such a huge blessing in our life because it isn't quite "pinterest perfect"...
so, this is a new way that i am choosing to burn the candles + say perfection be darned! we LOVE our space + have enjoyed the heck out of it so far, and at a certain point, you just get sick of working on your house on the weekends + just want to sit on the deck with your family + watch your kids chase bubbles... and so we've done a lot more of that lately + i'm okay with it! the list of stuff will get done at some point, and in the meantime we are making memories.
so without further ado... our new great room!
this space has the best feel. from day one, the vibes have just been soooo good. it's SO much more space than we had previously, and now that it's not neighboring our kids rooms, we can watch tv at night with the volume higher than a 6... LIVING. LARGE. i tell ya.
we feel like we can entertain better here + we added the fireplace which is always a nice touch. the windows are my all time favorite detail because it lets SO much natural light into the room + looks out to our lake, where we watch and swoon over countless sunsets.
building onto our already loved so much house was seriously a goldmine of an idea, and i am forever thankful and never want to move. i've already snapped pictures of our less than perfect master bedroom and kitchen too + will post them here soon! new dining space is after that, and i'll wrap up with kid room make overs + outdoor! huzzah!

^^^forever sucker for a gallery wall. i want to hang a wreath on the salvage wood piece + fill that vintage liquor bottle with pennies!
^^^these restoration hardware, craigslist bar stools were a dream come true find, they have my heart eyes... + i swooned over the pottery barn pendants until they went on sale for the same price as home depot lights, score! + yellow tulips... duh.
^^^we LOVE how this bar brought the kitchen and living areas together to create an open floorplan feel of togetherness, without losing the character of our old house! also, chris and grant built it together + that makes it even more special.
^^^the "joy box" is my favorite item in the living room, as it's filled with our chatbooks! me and the kids thumb through them all the time, and i get all reminiscent over how little they were then and how big they are now, and it's really just the best thing.

a recipe for our happy lately

1. a never ending helping of chris being home + not traveling, AMEN AMEN AMEN.

2. EVERYTHING lucy says... i truly wish i could bottle up her little voice (+ really the rest of her too) and keep it forever so I never forget it EVER EVER

3. hourrrrsss spent out on the deck

4. planning our first ever trip without the kiddos (since kiddos) before our next little love arrives

5. sisters, ALWAYS. good morning texts EVERY SINGLE DAY, and typically seeing them most days too. there are few things that beat the bond between sisters + i am SO SO thankful for them, and that we are giving lucy a sister!! huzzah!

6. lucy overcoming some seriously tiring sleep habits + championing all the way home!

7. our kids met us in the kitchen this morning, having gotten down + walked there holding hands.... DEAD.

8. loving our new church series + our small group nights

9. smoothie bowls all the live long day

10. flowy dresses for life, especially my pregnant life. i told chris the other day that i'm so done with pants, and he laughed... i guess he's never been pregnant.

11. baby kicks giving me alllll the good feels. i love this little sweetie + am starting to wonder what she will look like! lucy? abel? ME?! or maybe another chris clone... SO thankful i married a man who looks like that, i'd be happy if they ALLL looked like him!

12. abel love, i've said it before, but i truly truly don't think it gets sweeter than him.

scenes from easter weekend.

i hope you had a lovely easter weekend!
i love easter! i'm so thankful for our risen savior, who made this beautiful life possible. because of him i am able to live and love each day with my sweet family + i am forever grateful for the sacrifice he made because he loves us, nothing beats that.
we had a great weekend overall, we got our usual saturday morning treat from little bird - monkey bread. they ONLY make it on saturday mornings + we get up bright + early hoping to snag some before they are out! we made crepes for breakfast easter morning, the kids loved their easter baskets + church was lovely per usual. we ate lunch at my moms + the kids napped, and when they woke we truly had the most magical rest of our day. we played with their new playdoh + chris must have sword fought + played pirates for two straight hours on the deck afterwards. they chased bubbles, abel hunted for eggs a second time + it was so pleasant and wonderful to spend time with my little family. evenings like that are more than i could have dreamed of, and i think at one point in the evening i even told chris that i should probably just have my final breath then because it can't possibly get cuter than them or sweeter than this + it would surely be the most glorious last moment on earth if i chose one.

^^^enjoying their new chalk/play table from auntie tay. i SWEAR i'll never buy another toy. my kids are just over them after a week, but never the ones that are interactive or creative or musical, that stuff never gets old, and i LOVE that.
^^^flower lady forever, is there a flower that really screams spring like a tulip?!
^^^easter weekend blooms from my boys :)
^^^that right there, forever.. amen. to think of a third one in this mix come july is too sweet to imagine, i can't wait!
^^^JACKPOT- ALL the heart eyes :)

right around the time lucy was born, chris started traveling for work. this was obviously spectacular timing, as i was now learning to navigate being a mother of two children AND on top of it then, also learning to do it solo when he was away. ----i'm going to go ahead and say cheers here, to single mothers + mothers who have husbands that are gone for extended periods of time. i know that you have your routines, just the same as i do, and we are both getting-it-done, hooray! but i know that it's not the preferred method for most and so i really do respect and cheer on anyone in that boat!----

in the early days there were an embarrassing amount of car naps, and everyone load up in the car for bedtime too so i can transfer you into your beds asleep, because i just don't know any other way i'm going to get you to bed being outnumbered and not well structured like this... TRUTH, judge if you wanna. over the course of the past year and a half though, i've gotten into my routines with the kids when chris is both home & away, which has helped tremendously. this is a serious accomplishment for me, and both that combined with the kids also getting older has changed our days from melt downs all around (mostly from me) and what felt like a serious sh*t show sometimes (excuse the language but there is truly just no better way to put it) to what i've suddenly, and happily noticed to be us enjoying & living our days out, instead of me feeling like i survived it. i don't know when the shift happened, but i just noticed this week, during one of chris' longest trips to date, that i wasn't wishing for or pushing through to bed time, but instead looking up at the clock and realizing that it is already here or maybe even past and still asking the kids if they'd like to read some books or watch a movie with me. this is a clouds parting in the sky milestone for me, and really couldn't have happened at a better time, since now instead of "chris travels sometimes" it's more like "chris is home sometimes". that is a struggle on it's own, and i miss him, and the kids miss him, and FaceTime is our very best friend... but to be having happy little days with the little people that i love the very most + regular naps (not typically in the car anymore haha), and quality time, and the sweetest bed time and cherishing their every word + not feeling so snowed under that i need them to go to sleep so i can catch my bearings is so settling + helps a lot. thank you Lord for this window before our new little one arrives, You ALWAYS ALWAYS know the perfect timing for all things.
motherhood is such a journey, and each phase with each age and child is new. i remember feeling like i finally had it down with abel just before lucy was born + thinking, well here we go shaking things up... and here i am again, victory dancing just a few short months from adding another little one to our crew... but i like to think i've learned and grown + that hopefully i've been seasoned to do better with each one added. either way i'm so thankful for this role, even on the very hardest days, and even more so on the best ones. thank you a million times, and a million times again God.

a back dated love letter to a little one, and a 22 week bump

written february 8, 2016 + saved for publishing (pictured, 22 weeks)
little baby one in my tum,
i love you. i can't believe you are in there... mostly because you don't make yourself known with a whole lot of kicking yet, like i remember it to be. I know you'll make up for it as you grow though.
i wonder so much what you look like, and if you'll be a boy or a girl, and will you be like lucy or abel? or will you be completely new and different?
i hope life out here doesn't sound too chaotic, and i hope you're learning the voices of the people who love you the very most. me + daddy, lucy + abel, and all of our family too!
one thing that i do know, is how special you are. i know this because i've already had two very special kiddos, and i know that God has your wonderful life laid out oh so beautifully, just like theirs.
abel thinks you are a girl. he has decided that if you are in fact a girl, we will name you arrow (that's your cousin, and not what we will name you) and if you're a boy? st. bernard... also not what we will name you, (you're welcome)... but he's sweet for trying. you will LOVE your siblings. they already love you. lucy goes to sleep every night with her face up against my belly, and when she finishes her bottle, she turns to kiss you + drifts to sleep.
i can't wait to meet you little one.
