a couple reasons why my husband is the best.

he cooks. like reeeeally cooks. & enjoys it too. i'm more of a baker & only make a handful of meals around here (really, a handful: tacos, eggplant parmesan, pasta fagioli, most of our breakfasts, & if i'm really feeling crazy- something off of pinterest) ...so him cooking is something that i appreciate extra. my dad was an amazing cook & food was an area that he and chris could really relate on, so it's still so special to me whenever chris is making a meal or uses my dads cooking phrases like, "dinner is swerved." it keeps a little piece of my dad in our kitchen & also food in our bellies with actual nutrition.

he looks like that.

he gave me abel. period. & i'm sure when our miss gets here, that quality is only going to explode my heart even more.

he's adventurous and gets us out and about on the weekends, but also knows how to balance fun & work & rest, and keeps our life full of the best.

he makes me laugh daily.

he's hard working & he's enthusiastic about ideas & goals & food, three areas where i believe enthusiasm is 100% necessary.

he treats our marriage like a true partnership. shares responsibilities, makes decisions together, respects my wants & needs, takes care of me & allows me to take care of him where needed.

he treats me like the apple of his eye. he loves the mother i am to abel & appreciates me & all that i do.

he loves abel in a way i can't even explain. it's the sweetest to see them together. playing, hugging, laughing. whatever it is, you can bet your booty my heart is somewhere on the floor melting, having leapt from my chest due to the overflowing love i have for those two.

he smells good & kisses me every morning before he leaves for work and every night before he falls asleep.

his heart is made up of pure gold, and again… he looks like that ;)

reminders.

IMG_5077
i saw a post over on a beautiful mess… (man is that place packed with fun) where they talked about reminder foods! i loved it, & it got me thinking about reminders...

i have a crazy good memory. like elephant good. this serves us well around here because husband doesn’t. not only do i remember any and everything, but i also relate things to smells, songs, tastes, years, people, etc.

for instance… when chris wears a certain cologne, i’ll say “oooo, you smell like 2004” … he laughs, recalls that year & is like, oh my gosh you’re right, and weird. but he loves it.

anyhow. i LOVE memories & reminiscing. i myself, am made up of 75% nostalgia (the other 25% is probably peanut butter… or dessert, but we’ll just stick with peanut butter for now).

i love that cookie dough reminds me of my friend abby, and oreos remind me of emma. peanut butter is the common thread in my friendship with gaby, & cupcakes make me think of margaret.

i will never not think of the romeos when opening bottles with fizz. coke in a can takes me back to high school. brisk iced tea & kit kats were the main components of my diet during the ashtonkalachelseahillary days (i run the names into one, because we were pretty much never NOT together), vanilla sugar wafers remind me of visiting chris in college & well waffles... remind me of every other day for the past 3 years of our lives.

what about you? do you have any food triggers that remind you of something fun or wonderful? foods are fun. maybe next time we’ll do smells!

*sidenote, i realize it sounds like my diet only consists of foods that would lead me down a sure path towards obesity… however, i’d like to state that i do eat foods other than sugar & lots of fruits & veggies too! they just don’t remind me of anything… :)

so, it's april...

april marks the beginning of one of my favorite seasons. yes spring is nice, but i'm talking about a different season.
birthday season.
i just loooooove birthdays! and parties! so, birthday parties well... you know.
husband, as many of you know, has a birthday this sunday. followed by my birthday, my mimi's, my mother-in-law, & my dad's in may, my little sister's birthday in june... and many friends in-between.
birthdays celebrate life! they are way more fun than new years, to recap what has changed in your life since the last birthday you had, and... you get to eat cake. bam.
so many people worry about birthdays and getting older... i don't understand it. i mean, this IS the first year that i'm seeing my number and thinking, "WHOA, WHAT?! 25?!" i thought 23 was a great number to stay at... but really, i mean come on. 23 didn't have a baby! 23 didn't live near her family for the first time in 3 years, or love & understand her husband like she does now. 23 still beat herself up for making mistakes & being a sinner... she didn't grasp Christ's love for her, & the forgiveness that had already been given on the cross. 23 didn't know what she was missing!
each year, the number goes up, but so do the experiences, & joys of life. i LOVE older people. you can see their years. their life. conversations with them are so full! full of joy, pain, laughter. we don't get there without the birthdays! so, needless to say, birthdays are celebrated around here! life is a beautiful thing. i hope you celebrate yours!
with that being said... i leave you with this pretty picture of a pretty cake (found on pinterest), & a day to enjoy!
xoxo

spring fever!

happy monday!
i hope you had a wonderful weekend!! we sure did! it snowed buckets yesterday & was cold & snowy the days before that too! i had been waiting for some real snow around here, & can now be okay about moving into spring & not feel like we were totally jipped in the winter weather department! so, yay! that being said, i am now starting to feel excited for the season change & all things bright & beautiful (didn’t mean to owl city reference there, but let’s go with it). mostly, i can’t wait to lay a blanket in the grass with my little guy & watch him discover life & cloud watch! anyhow… i came across these GORGEOUS flowers while giving minutes of my life to pinterest, and just looking at them made me happy :) thought it might make you happy too!

last week, (Jan. 9th) husband and i celebrated nine whole years of loving eachother. unfortunately we were both sick, but i mean, they say "in sickness & in health" for a reason right? husband was still so perfect and surprised me by bringing me home a beautiful rose & the chewy candy I had been craving all week :) he just makes life better ya know?

**ps, today is 28 weeks! holy cannoli! the fruit chart is WAY off lately... today it tells me that baby boy bump is about 2.9 lbs, and 17 inches long... the size of a small cabbage.... umm what?! have YOU ever seen a SEVENTEEN inch small cabbage??? i haven't. so fruit/veggie pictures will resume when they get their comparisons together, sheesh. i will say though, i'm very excited because we now measure head to toe which is new & we are third trimester sailing! can't wait to meet our boy! happy weekend!**

happy two years of marriage!

seriously? 2 years? wow! Lord, You really knew what you were doing on this one :) i am eternally grateful for marriage & for the life i share with chris. he is truly the best man & choosing him to love each day is NOT hard. plus he looks like that… that isn’t horrible either ;)

2 years of marriage, 9 years together total (this winter)… i have loved my life so far with husband & am so proud to be the mrs. to his mr. i see our life together & imagine our future and light up inside. it usually causes me to break out in an uncontrollable smile, sometimes song, and lately tears ha! i’m not sad, lately i just feel overwhelmed with love. i have never felt so loved by chris as i do these days, and everytime i think i couldn’t love him more, my heart shows me i’m wrong & just keeps expanding with more love for this one man. thank You, thank You, thank You God! the more i love chris, and the more i understand his love for me, it opens my eyes to Your love for me. to think that You love me a gazillionmilliontrillionkazillion times more than chris does?! whoa. that is a LOT of love. seriously blows my mind, and i am SO thankful.

here is to another 2 years times a million chris… cuz ya know, we’re gonna live that long :)
i love you so much.

last year i posted on our anniversary & reminisced on our special day HERE… gah, what a beautiful celebration! This year, i wanted to post a few pics from our engagement, since it played a key part in getting us to where we are now, enjoy :)

our engagement story.
after five & a half years of dating, chris decided it was time to marry me. sheesh, took him long enough! ha, kidding. i guess it isn’t very common for 15 & 16 year olds to get married.. so fine, it’s okay that he waited. anyways… on July 20, 2009 chris decided THIS was the day. so he went to starbucks, wrote the question on the bottom of a coffee cup & let them know what was going on & that we would be coming in later that day, together…

skip forward an hour or so…
he invited me to grab a starbucks & like i usually do when he invites me to do anything… i accepted. we went to the starbucks in monument & he wanted to go in and sit instead of his usual drive-thru option. say what? yea, i was surprised too, however not suspicious at all & was happy he wanted to sit & chat (kind of my favorite thing to do). we get to the counter & i order my summer starbucks drink of choice: passion tea lemonade-sweetened, and he orders a white chocolate mocha… a hot drink in the middle of summer?? i questioned him & he told me he was ‘just feelin’ it.’ the perfect opportunity for me to bust his plan and be suspicious that something was going on. oblivious, we paid & found a table. i am thankful for my slight ditzy-ness in this moment. we sat talking, for what seemed like FOREVER as chris would describe it. me, blabbing away, while he is CHUGGING a piping hot drink, (“burning off his tastebuds”) in hopes i will see the bottom of the cup. it took me a little bit before i ever even noticed, but then i did.

i can still remember his face exactly when he saw me see. he immediately pulled out the little box & opened it. i remember just crying & saying yes, yes! before i ever looked down at the little beauty. everyone in starbucks was cheering & it was wonderful!

the ring was beautiful & designed by him! not another one in the world like it :) the diamonds from my engagement ring were given to us by his grandmother, making them SO SO extra special to me. she told me she wouldn’t want anyone else in the world to wear them except me, which also warmed & still warms my heart right up.

i love this ring of mine, it pretty much never leaves my finger. (you can see my finished engagement&wedding ring in last year’s post HERE)

plain jane.

plain jane.
the feeling of a fresh face is just glorious.
in fact, it is probably on my top 10 list of 'best things ever'.

squeaky clean.
no make up.

this is coming from a girl who doesn't wear much make up to begin with. i don't use foundation.. just blush, eye make-up & the occasional lip gloss. but the amount that i appreciate a fresh face, you would think i was a kardashian or something (no hate here. love them. just sayin')
the freedom to rub your eyes. cry. sleep.. gah, it truly is a wonderful thing.

makes my heart happy.
happy monday! xoxo
